I walked into the theatre really wanting to like this movie. The previews portrayed this as a romantic comedy revolving around a career woman dating a father that has three little girls. What we got was a depressing story of an ex-con Monty (Idris Elba) with 3 girls, with a psycho baby mama, who is the neighborhood savior and just happens to date the attorney Julia (Gabrielle Union) who represents him.

Spoiler Alert - (if you don't want detailed information, read no further!)

Characters - All of the characters in the movie were despicable. Not one was endearing to me. Julia was a shrew, the girls were too smart mouthed and street wise, and Monty was the supposed hero who despite the same circumstances could have had custody of his girls before their caretaker died. The "baby mama" character was just soooooo over the top, that I couldn't stop rolling my eyes every time she came on screen.

Story - Julia and Monty meet while he is her driver. Not only is he driving her to work, but also social engagements. Julia has two girlfriends who are such good friends that they are setting her up with married men and 40 yr old unemployed rappers who don't speak English. This in itself is retarded, let alone the fact that she goes on them. But I digress... Anyway after these encounters she decided that she could do worse, and starts to see Monty. But is afraid to tell her friends that she is seeing him, even after they set her up with these various losers? Then they throw in story lines about drugs, and abuse, and baby momma drama, and taking back the neighborhood, and commitment, and your past coming back to haunt you, and....yada, yada, yada It all just gets to be too much and none of it is really interesting, or make the whole movie gel.

Acting - All I can say is the romance between the two seemed strained and awkward. The baby mama and drug dealer character, over the top. What type of drug king pin stands on the corner selling his own drugs? Monty, what good eye candy, but his performance was pretty much forgettable. And the girls just pretty much got on my nerves.

I might have laughed a couple of times during this movie, but for the most part, my mind was wandering off. I think that Tyler Perry, being the smart man that he is, had to put his name in the title to get people in the theaters on this one. Because if it was based on actual reviews and word of mouth, in my opinion his ticket sales would be much, much, much lower.
