Beautiful, beautiful movie! For those with "eyes to see" let us all be humbled by the King, and grateful to Hollywood for finally putting out a positive Christian Christmas movie. Sadly, the arrogance and bias of most of the professional critics missed the greatest story every told. But then, humility is what it's all about. Without it, no "wise men" will any of us be.
Even if you don't have a religious bone in your body, anyone who has an appreciation for fine production and beautiful cinematograpy would be unwise to pass over this masterpiece. Some of the scenes were so beautiful they looked like paintings.
As one who has studied the Virgin Mary in great depth, I would only add that NO ONE could portray Mary in her prefection. I also (although there is no certainly albeit evidence), don't think Mary gave birth by "natural means." That said, I don't really much fault Keisha CH so much. But in honestly, I can assure you the real Mary is SO much more gentle. I even thought her parents and sometimes Joseph came off just a little too harsh at times.
The only thing that really did bother me was when on her way to Elizabeth's, Mary showed doubt of Elizabeth really being pregnant. That was the only real flaw of the movie. The reason is, Mary NEVER had any doubt,NEVER, despite not being able to make a bit of sense out of any of it. Unlike Zacharrais, who DID have doubt, and was chastised by losing his voice. It bothered me because it is such a key point to real faith and the importance of trusting God's word.
I applaud all efforts to make such a beautiful film. I wonder (but hope) how many will get the "depth" of the story, starting with the humility of Jesus. He loved us so much he humbled himself to come as a babe (after all, who couldn't love a baby!)Many may not realize that Bethlehem means "house of bread." Just as a baby was wrapped in swaddeling clothes, so is the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist "hidden" in the bread. After all, he DID tell us he would be WITH us until the end of the ages, and he REALLY did mean physically. |
