Surfer soars to the Silver Screen!!

First and foremost...
WARNING: SOME PLOT/STORYLINE SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW...DO NOT READ ON IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE AND DON'T WANT IT SPOILED!!
First off I will already admit to being a HUGE Silver Surfer fan. That being said I think they did a pretty good job of not completely destroying this movie (eh hem...X-Men 3!) The only things I had to complain about were:
1. The Silver Surfer does not draw his power from his board, it and he both have their own power supply. (although they did some-what correct this at the end of the movie by showing him floating in space not attached to the board but still having his power/shinyness)
2. Galactus is not a giant cloud of smoke!!! They could have at least shown a figure of him in the cloud!
One could argue on and on all day about the minor little things they changed, but in reality they did a very reasonable job of keeping the Surfer in a true-to-the-comics state. Anyone who has ever seen a comic-to-movie adaptation will know before ever going into the theatre that there are going to be changes, but they were kept to an acceptable level for this movie. I also have a feeling that they will change/correct some of these things in the Silver Surfer movie (which has been rumored to be a major project in the future). All in all it's a respectable movie as long as you are willing to accept the fact that they always change things in movies and don't get hung up on the details. Incredible visual effects and a decent storyline will make the majority of movie-goers happy enough with this film. |
