The film is a billion times better than its awful predecessor, better in terms of its action, its story and the levels of humour throughout the movie. As you could probably judge from the million and one trailers for this movie, its on a much, much bigger scale, and it really does seem like the film makers have gone all-out to create a really great F4 movie. Do they succeed in accomplishing this? Absolutely, but by no means is the movie perfect. So what’s good and what’s bad? Firstly the good…. The F4 themselves start looking like the F4, they look more comfortable with the characters and their powers, and this is great for the movie. Because we see them using their powers so much more than the first and to much bigger effect, for example saving the London eye sequence is simply stunning. But there’s so much more, so many action set pieces, that keeps the film constantly flowing, moving from stunning location after stunning location. The Silver Surfer himself looks totally believable for every frame of the movie he‘s in, and the chase between him and Johnny although we’ve seen it a thousand times on the net, it still looks amazing seeing it on the big screen, but thankfully its just one of the many big action sequences, which this scene did raise concerns, part of me was thinking the chase was going to be the centre piece/ biggest thing the movie would have to offer, but how wrong I was. But as I mentioned before the film is by no means perfect and I still feel this second instalment is plague by the things that bothered me by the first movie, mainly Doctor Doom. I still feel that casting Julian McMahon as Doom was a mistake, his presence on screen just doesn’t feel threatening, he just feels there, for the sake of having him there, there’s no real development for the character and the idea perhaps of Doom wanting revenge against the F4 could of being portrayed better. However comparing Doom with the first film, he’s a hell of an improvement, his costume more authentic, he just looks so much more cooler and more the like the Doom we see in the comics, and the first meeting between Doom and the Surfer for me was the best scene of the movie. The only other Grudge I have was some of the CGI effects, Some of Reeds shots look too unrealistic and unfinished, and some of the CGI work that went into Reeds and Sue’s weeding at the beginning of the movie look like they needed a little more work on them, but judging by the sheer amount of CGI in this movie, a few shots here and there didn’t bother me too much. And finally Galactus, when I first heard would be presented as a cloud, did have me worried, but in the movie it totally works, and he’s not just a cloud, he’s a huge storm the size of a planet, the best way to describe him would be to take the biggest twister from ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ and times that by a million, and you might just get Galactus, The only real let down for me personally was not by the film but by the way the film has being advertised, the trailers do give away too much, I wished when I watched the film I hadn’t watch so many, but hey at the time it seemed a good idea! Nevertheless the film rocks, its not perfect, but at least its put some credibility into the F4 franchise.
