Mixed feelings, but glad I saw it

I had mixed feelings about this movie, but it was interesting and I'm glad I saw it. Many tour guides and rangers in Alaska are upset that Sean Penn glorified Chris McCandless, who many consider to be a nut case and schizophrenic personality. Many 20-somethings who admire him are trying to do the same things he tried to do, and some are dying as a result.

The other thing that bothered me about the film was that the emotional and other struggles Chris McCandless faces are common to young men and women, but many who see the film and are over 35 or so, won't identify with Chris' feelings and his very immature way of dealing with them, or rather not dealing with them.

But I'm glad I saw the film. I somewhat got caught up in the whole adventure and personal story during the second half of the film, and I really loved the scenery and photography. Also, the acting was quite good, especially the guy who played Chris M., and Hal Holbrook and some of the other characters Chris meets during his journay. I am not at all sorry I saw this movie, and recommend it if you want to see an unusual story and great photography.
