Very slow starter

You're compelled to leave the theatre almost at the first minutes, as the opening scenes drag mercilessly, sets look like production had major budget issues, and you really struggle to believe this is 19th century.
The odd thing is, however, that the movie actually picks up about half-way into it, and it's in part due to the dark energy of Asia Argento character. And as soon as you're able to adjust to a very slow life pace back in 1830s, you
start to enjoy the dialogue, the costumes, and the twisted story.
Yet, there is a shining example of how to depict an epoch with a different lifestyle, so it's not that painful to survive - Milos Forman's Valmont.
Ironically, there are a lot of similarities between the two novels, but the movie implementations differ greatly. |
