"Freedom has a price" is not the empty rhetoric we hear daily from our politicians as they justify their misguided policies. This lovely story is told in low tech but effective animation. Early on in the film the viewer is afforded a bit of history, the kind we so often ignore and dismiss in the west: meddling in a people's struggle for liberty and democracy has a price and that price will be exacted some day. When the British and the Americans thwarted the Iranian people's aspirations in the 40's and 50's they sowed the seeds of today's Iran with all its consequences. Consequences the movie effectively shows to affect not only nations, but individual lives.
Chiara Mastroianni, as the voice of the lead character is superb. |
