As a psychologist, I always go into movies that have a major psychiatric element with my jaw clenched - Hollywood never gets it right (every psychiatrist has a wood-paneled office and has sex with their patients). In this case, the brain damaged young man is played to perfection. The characters as a whole are extremely well done (except, of course, "Bone" - too much). The script is close to brilliant, with whole backgrounds of characters established by single sentences within a single scene. But the whole movie rests on the shoulders of the lead actor, Jeff Gordon-Levitt, and he carries it off. There is not a weak performance in the group. Go see it and enjoy what a strong film can portray. |
