Tea Leoni and Ben Kingsley work. Their characters see something in each other that movie goers can believe. Kingsley's character identifies what that is fairly early on and we don't have reason to question why from that point on.
There is much more to this than an odd romantic pairing. All the characters are well developed. The story of an alcoholic hitman, his recovery and fish out of water struggles is a lot of fun. Even his family's Polish mafia vs Irish mafia struggles (created because he couldn't do his job while drunk), is amusing.
Luke Wilson and all the supporting cast provide a high level of quality all around.
We find it easy to root for Kingsley and the Kingsley-Leoni relationship.
We often struggle with Kingsley but we have a lot of fun doing so.
Great changeup from the disappointing summer blockbusters we're accustomed to this time of year. |
