Nice ans stylish movie about life in LA
by a (movies profile)

What it accurately depicts is the sleepish existence in the daytime LA and its rather-garden-than-urban city scene. I need to mention, though, that the current Yahoo movie description is a real puzzle, as the only thing matching the actual film are the names of the characters, while the posted plot seems to have nothing in common with the movie.
The film mainly explores the lives of several generations of LA folks - runaway and local teens, 20-something, 30-something, 40-something, 50-something men and women. It's actually done in a very stylish manner, even though a lot of characters seem to be going through disturbing moments in their lives. However, it's not portrayed in an overly dramatic fashion, but more as if it were happening in your own life.
What is really surprising is that this movie did not cause the same uproar in the USA as the movies of the French cinematographer Catherine Breillat ("Fat Girl", "Virgin"), when dealing with the same taboo subject of underage sexuality. Maybe because "Garden Party" focuses more on the life surrounding these events, than the events themselves. |
