movie is another in a long line of Poker tournament movies. Other earlier movies like The Grand were good, unfortunately this one isn't. Tommy Vinson ( Burt Reynolds) is the ageing pro who has never won the big game, and who has promised his wife, Helen (Maria Mason) that he won't gamble anymore, this is a half hearted promise, one that Tommy made only because Helen threatened to leave if he played again. Bret Harrison plays Alex Stillman, the young cocky college student who won a seat to the game in an on - line tournament. Tommy sees Alex on t.v. playing in his first tournament, and tells him he can teach him how to read the other players tells, after a few days Alex agrees to let Tommy teach him. The plot also involves the over protective parents who are looking out for Alex's own good, but soon come to see how good Alex is, of course they do. Like the other poker movies many real pro players represent themselves in the games, other players are Mike 'Double Diamond' Jackson (Jon Eyez) and Karen 'Razor' Jones (Jennifer Tilly) who Alex will face in the big game at the final table, but he also faces them at private games prior to the the tournament. Tommy, of course decides to play in the big game as well and he and Alex go head to head as the last two remaining players. The ending is so obvious that I knew what was gonna happen long before it did, there isn't really anything here worth recommending, Burt Reynolds walked around as if he was in pain, forcing himself to sit in chairs and standing up from them with grimaces on his face. I give Deal a 1 and on my avoidance scale I give it a 2, this movie will be out on video soon, but wait until it is on cable to bother with it. This just isn't a very good movie, the story has already been told many times this year alone. This is one of the most unoriginal movies I've seen in a long while.
