The first review gives an excellent synopsis of this story so I'll not rewrite it here. This movie surprised me with the character development of a young widow and her son caught in World War II even though they are in a remote village that hardly anyone has visited. The special effects are very good and if you are willing to suspend disbelief for a couple of hours, I'm sure you and your family will enjoy this film. Crusoe, the star of the show, is delightful as it hatches, grows and even frightening (briefly) when it defends itself from it's attackers. The underwater scenes are mesmerizing (yes, I know...the boy's eardrums would never have been able to sustain such a variable pressure change but just forget about that for a few minutes!)and truly breathtaking. I enjoyed it and it certainly maintained the interest of children from age 5 to 12 that were watching it along with me. The actors seem to truly understand their characters and breathed life into this wonderful story.
There is a message that war is insane and causes much senseless death and destruction but overall, the strength of family, love, and friendship is what you take home with you. All in all, an excellent reason to see it with your loved ones. |
