I must say that when reading the other reviews on here. I have got to ask what were some people thinking. I mean the movie is rated R for strong nudity, language and gore. My first instinct when reading this and after seeing the preview would be leave the kiddies at home. Hire a babysitter, and dont sit through this if, you dont like the horror, and thriller genre.
Okay, when first hearing about Mr. Brooks I was very suprised at the fact that Kevin Costner, was supposed to play a serial killer. I have never been a fan of his work. Or Demi Moores departure into the land of the abyss, (excluding Bobby) after Charlies Angels: Full Throttle. But I was pleasantly suprised on many accounts of this movie. For one the director was not afraid to show the duality all of us have with in ourselves. Now of course this way overstated, otherwise we would all be behind plexy glass. Also what amazed me is that Hollywood did not type cast for this film. Both Kostner, Cook, and to some extent Moore all battle their stereotypes. I wont go over the plot to much with you, but I will say that the basic outline, is how Mr. Brooks can lead this seamingly (Mr. Cleaver) experience while killing for the adenaline. Now the trick is to figure out what he is going to do with the only witness to the perfect crime Cook. And how to finally outwit his whole idea of sanity, Hurt.
Again please give this movie a chance if you are an avid Thriller fan. But dont rate a movie based on the fact one going into the movie you either hate the genre, or are disgusted at the grumesomeness of the murder. When a movie is about serial killer, except the unexpected. |
