TO KEVND27:
If you have no knowledge of what your are speaking thereof, keep thy mouth shut lest ye remove all doubt and be shown to be fool--Thoreau.
YES, Elizabeth DID join her troops before battle with armour on. That part was true. That the entire court was always gorgeously attired would be false because the entire country was bereft from all monarchys previously to the point to where Cecil begged her not to bestow anymore favors or titles on him because he could not afford it! Elizabeth pulled her country's arse out of the toilet, was fair, honest, and lenient, and went to war with Spain as a necessity, else, yes, we would all be speaking Spanish here (uh, practically are now, how sad) instead of English. The exception: How Mary was portrayed. Between pro Irish Repub and Scot decent, Mary is always depicted as a dumb broad. She was not surrounded by more than a FEW honest patriots to help guide her, whereas Liz had generous support. Poor Mary, God rest her soul for not using her head and losing it. And yes, Mary was the true rightful Queen of England, by birth and legalities. Liz was a bastard, sorry, but true. However, she was the better queen, but then again, (man, I sound like Tevye!) she had more power and backing behind her. Walsingham, along with Cecil, but really Walsingham saved Liz's ass and the nation. WHY can't the movies be exciting as WELL as historically accurate????????!!!! :<
