I have seen all of these characters before, in earlier (and better) films. Apparently the writer has too because he/she extracted them from various films released over the past 10 years and transplanted them into a very cliche disfunctional family. The acting was superb including Jack Black but it couldnt overcome such fragmented writing and poor direction. There were characters introduced who dissapeared without explanation. There were references to people never introduced into the story. Just terrible. There were also dozens of inconsistent character behaviors and the dialogue was so condescending, nothing was left to the imagination of the viewer. There were continuity errors and major story holes. Anybody who completed an entry level film class would have known better. |
