Not your average family..... or maybe it is

While I can appreciate that Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Jason Leigh did quality acting (since from about the first scene I wanted to slug Kidman, slap sense into Leigh and Hug all the children in the movie very tightly!) I had a problem with the multitude of unfinished plot lines... I felt like the director was a victim of bad editing that perhaps there were several other stories that were shot and we saw small allusions to them, but they ended up on the cutting room floor. I did however like the slice of life feel that the film had. we just walked into a literal family ***** storm with no life boat and had to coast along wherever the actors took us. Jack Black provided much of the comic releif (although I could have done without all the underwear shots) and overall I felt like the movie at least started up discussions among the friends that I saw it with which in all makes it worth seeing. Do not expect a linear plot (or any at all really) or a happy ending, do expect to see peices of people in your own life. |
