My husband and I love to go to the movies. Now that we have a 3 year-old and a 5 year-old, the opportunity to get to see something that's not animated is rare. Don't get me wrong, we do love the "Shrek" films and there is always room for "Finding Nemo", but sometimes we like to see a film that makes us think.
So, last Sunday, after experiencing a successful turn a few weeks back, when the entire Cairl Clan cried through "Bridge to Terabithia", we headed to the nearest multipleax to see a sneak peek of "The Last Mimzy". My kids are growing up and so it has become our goal to see more movies with real people in them.
So, in we went armed with m&m's and popcorn, ready for the four bathroom runs we normally have to endure accompanied by the, "I have to go potty!" said just loud enough to be heard by half the theatre. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that all four of us sat spellbound through this entire film.
The Last Mimzy keeps your interest as adult but is not too frightening or hard to follow for children. The story is incredibly original. The ensemble of actors were fantastic.
It made me remember seeing "E.T." for for first time with my family. And it made me think that I hope their will be more famly films coming down the pike soon. There is certainly an audience for them.
So, the Cairl clan gives The Last Mimzy four thumbs up(two bigs thumbs, two small thumbs). And with that we would like to remind Hollywood, that despite the success of "R"-rated fare like "300", there is always more money to be made when you can sell 4 tickets instead of 2. |
