Good! Not Great.

WE OWN THE NIGHT is a good film, NOT a great film. Though the acting, the cinematography, and the direction are top-notch, this melodramatic thriller suffers from a weak script that tried too hard to be ‘Scarface meets The Departed.’ Imagine, if the Departed was directed by Brian DePalma, it might look something like ‘We Own The Night.’ I will say that it was never boring, and car chase in the rain was quite harrowing. In fact all the action scenes were well executed. The only flaw was that the ‘two brothers on opposite sides of the track’ storyline was very predictable and needed to be fleshed out more. |
