this is so great movies from my Japanese point of view. I had already seen letters for third time and "letters" became one of my best movies.
In Japan, the film started at Decenber 9, and had continued to be a fisrt prise film in japan movies ranking for 5weeks!! and also now at least in best three movies. many japanese went to and will go to see the film and respect Clint's works.
I would like to review this film with good points and also bad points.
Bad points first, there are some miss understandings for japan (not so many). of cause, Clint studied very well, and most of parts this film is very well to reflect japanese culture. one miss is word. some word which the soldiers used in a screen was very recent word, not old. its something strange for Japanese, especially word specialist. ex, Pistol was not used in this time. they used other japanese word.
and there some inaccurate points historically in film. I thought this is because Scenario writer Sacrifice the fact to make story more interesting and to shorten it at about 120 minutes. ex, Barron Nishi told Kuribayashi the truth that The body of Japanese fleet had already annihilated in Saipan, but other man told him accuratlly and historically.
However, there are many good points to coever miss-understandings. the film reflected true japanese mind very well. and choice of Actors was so good that facionate Japanese, because they are famous Japanese actors. most important points, Clint remind many Japanese there were many soldier to fight for my country in this time. A lot of Japanese ..shamefulness.. did not remember this events.... thank you Clints !! |
