Woodstock Lives in Glastonbury
by Steven (movies profile)
Jun 1, 2007
This documentary looks at the entire history of England's annual Glastonbury rock festival from 1970 to the present. It gives the viewer a very good idea of what the festival is like, three days of freaks, hedonists, druggies, rock music, and in keeping with Woodstock, mud. It has evolved from a hippie festival in the 1970's to a more corporate affair today, complete with a wall to keep out gate crashers, guards, and even a bank! The endlessly repetitive shots of the crowd and the quasi-tribal goings on of the festival goers will no doubt get on the nerves of many, but the chaotic editing is in keeping with the actual festival going experience. Oh yes, there is music from a who's who of English rock icons of the last three and a half decades. Everyone from Ray Davies to Bjork performs. It was very sad seeing the already deceased Joe Strummer perform. |
