This movie has it all. It is thoroughly entertaining of all levels; it's equally comedic and dramatic, and we come to care very much about the lives of these LA Mexican-American families very much. Very serious issues are treated with regard, wit, & style: teen pregnancy, a gang-banger who's gay, and the death of a beloved uncle. The main characters come of age right before our very age, and considering the title of this film, which is the traditional celebration of a girl's 15th birthday, and one of a transition into womanhood, I'd say the screenplay got everything just right. The actors are outstanding as well. This is one of those rare films, like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding",without major stars or a big budget mentality, that could make it BIG based on excellent word of mouth. A tremendous effort...see it!!! |
