or Watts or Beverly Hills - only thing different is the cash. Families are the same everywhere you go. Parents freak out when their children do something they can't understand or accept. This story takes place in a mostly low income Latino neighborhood in Los Angeles, CA. The acting was great and the story is real life familiar yet fresh. Its enjoyable and you can't help but get drawn into the characters' lives. There are some sweet comedy moments from the supporting cast (the neighborhood women) and especially the three women who play the lead characters' mothers. Chalo Gonzales is a gem and Emily and Jesse are amazing. Can't help but love this little film which so genuinely portrays Latino culture, and it was written by two gay white guys! Which proves my point, families are the same everywhere you go. Today is a good day for a Quinceanera. |
