I feel as if some of the "professional" critics came in to this movie waiting to ambush it. Any movie that can evoke this much emotion is certainly worth seeing. Upon leaving the theater, everybody's eyes were red and the men were holding their heads down so people couldn't tell that they had been crying. The critics cannot deny that this movie keeps the viewer engrossed the whole time. Never discredit Sandler in a dramatic role, Punch Drunk Love was an excellent performance as well as Spanglish. This movie is no different, and despite what some of the critics say, this role is clearly believable and Sandler DOES deliver it well. From slapstick to dramatic roles Sandler is extremely versatile and always seems to deliver what the movie goer wants to see.
By the way, Peter Travers, Did you even watch the movie? Your analysis got a lot of plot specific points wrong. I guess thats what you get when you work for a corporate sell-out magazine like rolling stone to which I will not even capitalize because my dog can write better than some of your reporters. I read the new Pink Floyd excerpt and you restate everything everybody already knows with no new information at all. |
