Okay. I just saw this, midnight showing... all I can say is, there is great potential for this movie to be something spectacular. You've got Jet Li and Jason Statham at WAR. Statham's movies usually aren't big on plot and flowing storylines, but he is excellent when it comes to intense action. Jet Li's movies aren't the best, but he is excellent in his martial arts performance and he can definitely show emotion when needed.
However, the Statham structure is what rules this movie, minus the incredible action.
The entire time I kept waiting some wild crazy action sequences... some martial arts, acrobatic extravaganza... but i was sadly disappointed , even up to the final meeting between the two. I figured the movie was leading up to this wonderful no holds barred final battle that would leave my jaw dropped. Instead, what I got was some stimulation and then a "oh, um, I'm tired. What are we doing anyway. Uh..." kinda battle.
I for one am sick of the up close camera shots for fight scenes. Please, directors... BACK AWAY AND GIVE US WIDE ANGLE SHOTS! Stop creating the illusion that there is some awesome fighting going on when its just a punch or a kick, but you cut the scenes in such a manner that we can't tell a leg from an arm. GEEZ! YOu have Wushu champion at your use and you fail horribly with the fight sequences.
Umm.. I can't even tell you what the heck was going on story wise... but who cares... we want to see ACTION.
I would say, save your cash, wait until the next Jason Statham or Jet Li flic comes out. Its a shame, these two powerful cannons, Statham and Li, and it seems this entire movie was a tease. |
