I must say, this was a movie I didn't know what I was supposed to expect. The previews made it look like a director brought the Wii video game Red Steel into film. Although not what i had originally thought, it impressed me none-the-less...well, give or take the last 3 minutes.
It starts out with a nice bit of action and charactor build up, as well as a good basis for the plot. There's a lot of time spent trying to figure out what the true plot is, but they keep you well fed with short scenes of well done action and twists. It gives you a healthy set of Statham and Li action (not at the same time yet), throws in a major twist that works well, gives you a crazy intense few minutes of lead-role action...and then the ending. Now, my interpretation of how the ending came to be was as follows: The crew watched the rest of the movie, thought it was awesome, and then realized "hey, we forgot an ending, and the debut is in an hour...*****, call up Statham and Li, we gotta throw something together". Don't worry, I'm not leaking what happened, I'm just letting the people know, as well as hopefully someone in the crew...WTF happened to the ending, and why did it blow more than Lance Bass performing at an all boys school.
Overall, I will say this is a must see in theatres for anyone who is a Jet fan or Jason fan. The story is intriguing, the build up is intense, the casting was for the most part well done besides the wives and a few henchman, the diallogue was fit-to-style and witty, and the intense scenes of mayhem as well as sword-fighting made it an overall good chunk of my life spent. |
