Enjoyable Robin Williams vehicle

Well worth watching, Classic Robin Williams, always great delivery on the one liners and dramatic acting, a good combination of comic and compassion mixed with intelligent thinking. Don't judge the movie by its trailers.
Politically, story line is topical - revamp of voting system to computerized voting, plausible based on programming glitches and corporate stock concerns overriding the right thing to do. That said, story line confused, detracting from the characters and their relationships which is what makes this movie watchable.
Not sure why everyone is comparing the main character to Jon Stewart, clearly reflects Robin Williams' own personna if he were a talk show host. Does a good job of conveying the complexities of a person thrown into an extraordinary position, trying to remain true to his own person and values.
If this is considered lightweight politcal fare, then you miss the point. It doesn't matter whether it is Liberal extreme political correctness or Conservative righteousness wrapping itself in the American flag, why does this country focus on distractions around the edges of issues rather than tackle the heart of the matter? The movie isn't interested in actually taking sides. It's pure entertainment and yes, there is a message too, gently delivered, but right on point. |
