I first became familiar with this story about 5 years ago when I read Juanita Brook's great book "Mountain Medow Masacer". When I first heard that a movie was being made I was really excited to see it. I couldn't have been more disapointed. The Mormons are portraid as one dimensional killers and no honest attempt is made to show what motivated them to attacked the wagon train (It was not religious fanatacism as the movie indicates). Plus this tragady is not a secret. The Mormon church has admited to the mistakes they made and have even made a monument at the site of the masacer in remembrence of those who died. Don't waste your time with this movie. You'ld be better off going to your nearest book stores and buying one of the many great books that have been written on this tragic event. |
