I'm not sure where to begin about this movie. Let me first say, my ancestors were massacared at Mountain Meadows and I have done extensive research on the history. All in all, this movie is historically correct with the papers / interviews to back it up. I do wish, however, that the "little things" were explained better. Like the moment when you see the castration of a young man and his "jewels" nailed to a board. The movie didn't tell you this was done when one of the OLD "apostles" wanted a YOUNG woman and the young man she was engaged to wouldn't give her up. His punishment? castration and his "jewels" hung up so everyone could see what would happen if you didn't do what your "apostle" told you to do. Anyways, the movie was a wonderful pictation of what happened at MM. Please do a search and read the historical documents from LDS and other resources that are online before you say it's bogus!
To see something at the theater this historical w/out all the extra fluff and bi-line stories is awesome. True, it's not a grammy winner, because most people don't want the blunt truth. They want "fluff" and special effects to peak their interest. If you want to understand part of what happened at MM, you need to watch this movie. If you are out for a feel-good and hi-tech movie... stay home. I want to thank the producers for telling my ancestors story - better than it has been told before AND for informing the unknowing public of a tragedy rarely heard about. Will people tear this movie apart - of course. They always do when it's something they don't understand or don't want to hear. Great movie without all the fluff!! |
