There are few movies that have the ability to drag you in a captivate you, that demand a response from you. It is no surprise why this film won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this year (2007).
I recently saw an advanced screening of the film (February 2007). However, I was infomred that the cut of the movie I saw was a longer, unedited version-- hence my grade of an A- for direction. I'm sure once the final product comes out it will become a classic.
Of particular note is the performance of Tammy Blanchard (Nina). She is unforgettable in the role of a lifetime. She completely stole the movie. The movie has beautiful cinematography and some delightful symbolism. This relatively simple, yet profound story will stay with you for a very long time. It's about life: family, friendship, sacrifice and what is truly important in life... love.
Note: I must criticize the movie trailer that is available online currently (as of February 2007). It does not do justice to this film. However, this is because there are some... "surprises"... in the movie which cannot be given away, making the material to make a movie trailer with sparse. Please don't let this deter you from seeing this film which I would not hesitate to call a piece of art. |
