Left you hanging - NO explanations - and SLOW
by Susan (movies profile)

I was looking forward to watching this movie, and while VERY slow, it did start off fairly well. By the last quarter of the movie, I wasn't sure what was happening - was it a dream, was she in a coma or something, was it a flashback, in short - what in the heck is going on?
The first "sinister" thing that happens is to their cute little white dog. Well, while you can figure out the dog is going to figure in somehow, it is like the dog is just there - they seem to ignore it - then when it dies - there are great tears????
What did the girl that used to live there have to do with anything? Did anyone else catch that in the beginning the real estate agent said that "it was just the two of them" - then when Elizabeth Shue goes to the grocery store, the clerk starts talking about the daughter Jenny that is at college? Some movie previews say the Shue character believes the house is haunted by this girl - well they surely never let you know this in the movie.
What about the mice - where did the doll come from - was it Jenny's - what about the diary - blank when you first saw it - then full of entrys - then she's writing in it - hiding it where the repairman found it in the beginning of the movie?
And the husband - what is with him - in the beginning she tells her mother he'll be taking off time - that is dropped - then he takes off time when she goes batty - THEN - she goes into I guess a mental ward - someone says she'll be there a month - the next thing - he's picking her up??? And - does anyone really believe that even if the buyer is motivated to sell - that a "up and coming businessman" could afford this mansion?
OK on and on and on like this - I felt like it was definitely a waste of a couple hours. I was particular disappointed because nothing was explained - that may have rescued it??? |
