Interesting, Engaging, Pleasing Film, Ends Well

This is a film about late adolescent/young adult romance. It's goofy, quirky, artsie. Some of the oddball characters are a little unbelievable, but some pretty good acting does a lot to carry them along. The two main characters, the male and female lead, are actually very good, and very good together. The film is a little slow at points -- and this is a comment coming from someone who tends to enjoy slow films -- but if you are patient through the slow parts, it picks up again. I think in the end the story is not as "deep" or profound as it aims to be, but it has a sweetness and lightness. And without any spoilers, I did really like how the ending managed to pull a number of key threads together in a slightly unexpected way. The film delivers warmth and happy, fuzzy feelings. Ignore the negative reviews by some of the professional critics, they can be idiots sometimes. |
