Wonderful play. Even more wonderful movie.

The film version is a slightly tightened and even more intense version of a magnificent play. For anyone who cares what education (and by extension, knowing anything) is really all about, this movie is an absolute MUST SEE. The characters are all too real and poignant, especially the boys, all of whom are true individuals, made absolutely unique on the screen. My only complaint (and it's a small one) is that the character of Irwin (the new teacher) is softened a bit in the film version. He's not so obviously a villain. He should be, as what he preaches is truly monstrous, but unfortunately has become the standard in much mindless education these days, both in England and America. DON'T WASTE TIME READING REVIEWS. GO SEE THIS WONDERFUL MOVIE. |
