Brings to mind "Romper Stomper" from Australia, but the sinking feeling doesn't come until a little later here. The bleakness of the urban landscape, the desperation of the characters and the turmoil of the early 80's are all tied together in an inescapable knot. The kid is a natural, and really, everyone is spot on. They were so much "themselves" that I felt like I was there. Nobody in Hollywood can watch this lean production without feeling shame. |
