A fine authentic film that entertains, gives some insight into the Irish fight for independence from England, and it's something more.
I think the film gives an insight into how insurgencies arise and operate. A similar film set in Iraq or Algeria would get tied up in cultural differences. But dealing with Ireland and Britain, the culture is very familiar to Americans, and allows one to see and focus on what's affecting and motivating people. |
