So-so historical drama

As a Christian, I get sick of seeing sentimentalized or overly moralized movies that are supposed to be good because they are "Christian". I thought this drama showed how a real man had to make real sacrifices and changes in his life based on his beliefs and his faith, which aligns itself much more to the life of Christ himself than much of the schmultzy "Christian" crap being peddled.
That aside, from a film-making perspective, the movie was a bit on the slow side, punctuated by emotionally moving scenes. These moments carried the movie along, but barely. The scenery was great and the actors were good, but I believe they could have shone more if they had been given better scripts.
All in all, I recommend watching the movie. It's a lot more edifying than most of the alternatives in the theater. |
