This film is well worth seeing.

The acting is superb, and Rowan Atkinson's performance is the most surprising and delightful. Atkinson is most famous for playing Blackadder and Mr. Bean on television and film. In this film, he's the straightman, an absent-minded, apparently asexual vicar named Walter Goodfellow. And he is a goodfellow. But his sexual ambivalence has left his marital bed cold and his wife seeking the favors of another. Atkinson is the straight man in this piece, and he plays it wonderfully. His interpretation of a passage from the Bible's "Song of Solomon" is nothing short of inspired (and inspiring). Not bad for an agnostic, Oxford-trained electrical engineer!

I could write long on the film. Let me just say that if you enjoyed "Ballykissangel", "Monarch of the Glen", and the recent film "Undertaking Betty", you will find yourself in familiar territory with a deliciously dark comedic twist.

There are real laughs in this film. Well done.
