Dark, Depressing, and a Little Cliché...But Good
by C Dub (movies profile) Dec 20, 2008
I have mixed feelings about this movie. It was quite a bit to watch and go through. The formula has been overused, but The Air I Breathe puts a different spin on it, and it is intriguing, captivating, and you can't look away.

Everyone in this movie has a surprising role. Brendan Frasier works for the bad guys and he takes no BS while he does his jobs. Sarah Michelle Gellar is an extremely famous entertainer who basically can be bought and ordered to do whatever they want with her. Everyone else in the movie isn't very important. The acting is pretty good and the storyline is pretty haunting.

Everyone's lives are ruined throughout the course of the movie. It is really just a tragedy the whole way through, it's hard to think any happy thoughts while you watch it. But somehow, the director finally weaves it around in the end to make something poetic. When there is an ending that sums up the entire movie into an idea and into a sort of message, it usually leaves me pretty satisfied. It's as if the movie really meant something.

So anyway, The Air I Breathe isn't superb. It's not even great. But it's a good movie with a poetic ending. Yeah...that's about it.

7 out of 10
