was "dragged" to "Waitress" by my wife expecting 90-120 minutes of torture by schmaltz. Also thought that critics were being overly kind because of the movie's tragic circumstances. Couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. The performances were exceptional - especially Keri Russel's breakout role. The characters were wacky and surreal in a good way - nutty but never devolving into farce.
Most of all, it had heart and was genuinely funny. Not in a forced, "Blades of Glory" type of way, but in a real, life-can-be-funny sometimes sort of way. Very real, heartfelt and touching.
