in my review i will talk about both movies - Night Watch and Day Watch.
i guess there are 2 groups of people - the ones who enjoyed it and the others who say it's crap. the reason i think is the presence or absence of understanding both - Hollywood film making and good old tradition of russian film making, and how it can be combined. understanding both is not characteristic for the most west europeans and americans. sad but true. (by the way, i'm Latvian, try to find it on the map) if i would show you a typical Russian comedy, drama or thriller, you would probably not follow half of it. but that's mentality and cultural differences.
in my view the director achieved a quite breath taking result in both movies. as you all know the story of vampires and good powers and the battles between them is as old as the film industry BUT and i think you all will agree this was a completely new perspective of it all. there was no strickt border between the good and the bad cause they were much the same. (as it also is in real life) that's why the story seemed do atractive to me. but that's just my opinion. the only thing i would like to reproach is the lack of more depth in the story. but even that is not disturbing enough to fully enjoy the movie. |
