This film, which takes place during the Holocaust in 1944, is not your typical film dealing with such subject matter. Instead, the screenplay is treated like a thrilling roller coaster ride of espionage and backstabbing plot twists and turns that will keep you glued to the edge of your seat.
And the acting is FLAWLESS! Big nods and kudos to its star, Carice van Houten, who is at once kittenlike, vamplike, and a female Rambo. She is not only gorgeous, but is every talented and can sing, too... Here's the plot: Girl in hiding (van Houten) gets caught while trying to escape on a boat and witnesses the violent deaths of her entire family...she escapes...only to fall in love with an SS Officer (another superb performance from Sebastion Koch) who was the overseer of the killings. From here on, we are taken from one intriguing place to another, all while an underground resitance group is trying to save the lives of their families and friends. You don't know who to trust in this film, and there are glorious surprises galore! Everything about this movie is stupendous: the script, the photography, screenplay, acting, sets, art direction, music, editing...it is a modern day cinematic masterpiece, and THE best film I have seen so far in 2007. Forget this Hollywood drivel they keep churning out: THIS is the film to see right now!!! |
