For those of us that grew listening to him and are die hard fans of what is known for "Salsa Gorda", this movie bring us back to memory lane. Many of us use to make the long lines and get into the pushing crowds to see his concerts and performances. This movie also portrays the inner demons that Hector LaVoe had to fight each and every day of his life. To those critics that didn't know him and see this film as another "Jim Morrison" tragedy, you need to research a little more the hispanic and Latin America musical history and culture. And once you have a good understanding of that hsitory and culture then sit down and watch this movie and you will see why many of us "Cocolos" (spanish slang for die hard salsa lover), choked and shed a few tears watching this movie. Jennifer, my "pava" (Jíbaro hat) off to you for taking the risk in a movie that might not mean much to many anglo's, but to puertoricans like me means a whole lot more than you can imagine. Your acting was excellent. To Marc, they could had not chosen a better actor to portray Hector. God bless you both. Like Hector would had said: "Mi Gente". |
