"El Cantante" was a GREAT movie! This movie depicts the tragic life of salsa legend Hector Lavoe in its brilliance. When i heard Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were the lead stars in this movie, I will not deny that I was a bit skeptical of the outcome of this movie. I decided to read Hector Lavoe's biography and that's when I fell in love with this tragic love story. Its takes you through the struggles Lavoe (Marc Anthony) encounters on his road to fame and how the woman that loved him stayed at his side 'till the end. "El Cantante" shows that Jennifer Lopez is truly a great actress, she portrayed the role of "Puchi" (Hector's love of 20+ years) with much precision with which she also played tejano star "Selena", back in 1997. Most importantly the film gives salute to some of Salsa's pioneers in the 70s-80s, Hector Lavoe along with Willie Colon, Fania, Ruben Blades, Johnny Pacheco among others. This movie was extraordinary done.....it is definitely a MUST SEE!!!!! |
