Before you take your child to see a movie based on a book, you might want to actually have read the book or atleast a review of the movie. All of the people that are giving this movie poor reviews are obviously people that have not read the book. Yes, Disney did a horrible job in marketing this movie. Yes, they showed the majority of the fantasy part in the previews. Yes, it has more mature themes than they let on in the previews, but so does the book. The movie did update the novel, which was written in the 70's, but I think that when it comes to the core of the story it is one of the more true adaptations of a chilren's novel to come out in awhile (I keep thinking back to the horrible representation on The Polar Express). The novel is not based in a fantasy world, it's based in the world that kids unfortunately have to grow up in. The book is intended for children 10 and up for a reason and it is the same reason that the movie should be recommended for the same age group. Maybe Disney and the raters messed up by rating it PG instead of PG-13, but don't take their mistakes out on a pretty great movie. |
