I am always scratching my head over the professional critic's review of movies like Penelope. The premise of this movie of accepting one's appearance not matter what was handled in a very sensitive manner, albeit with a comedic twist. The pig nose on Penelope, a comic sight gag, is really a metaphor for what wrong with all of us. The protective nature of motherhood was done well, and the ability for love to overlook the pig nose (in all of us) was exceptionally well done.
The critics should lay off the bacon. I thought Ricci was adorable with and without the pig nose. Simon Woods as GREAT -- I liked him even in HBO's Rome.
