After 30 seconds you forget that this movie is about penguins. It is all about cody, a young surfer who longs for recognition from his family and environment. He believes that winning a big competition will help him, but obviously he has to learn a lot... The movie is fun for all ages, our youngest son loved Chicken Joe and Cody, my daughter loved the surfing. And the moms, dads and grown-ups are laughing too! The voices are very well cast, my favorite is Jeff Bridges voicing the old Geek. The style is new, a very dynamic handheld camera complete with little imperfections like out of focus moments or dips under the water. Editing in documentary style allows cuts to interviews and characters commenting on the story or theme, adding a humourous angle. The animation is top-notch, you see details like characters breath and sigh, the eyes and expressions make you forget you're watching CG characters. The waves are amazing, the beach looks inviting and the tropical island feels lush. Makes you want to go on a long, long vacation on a tropical island. One more thing, stay throught the credits all the way to the end for a bonus scene. |
