There are three types of science-fiction movies:
1) Those that make no sense, and don't explain anything or remain consistent in their temporary laws of what ghosts, etc. are capable of, but its okay because they dont pretend to make sense.
(ex.: Back to the Future)
2) Those that are fully explained and work to maintain the established "ghost rules".
(ex.: "Ghost" -- Patrick Swayze can't be heard or seen, nor can he move objects, until he learns how.)
3) Then there are movies that make no sense, but pretend they do. That is the case of "The Invisible".
If there is any sense to the "ghost rules" established here, or the dumb, random, wannabe-emotional events that occur to the tragically shallow characters, it is invisible to me.
I cringed so many times during this disaster--sometimes in agony over the bad script, sometimes over the unnerving emotional scenes that are more creepy than endearing, and sometimes over the lack of uniformity in the abilities of the ghost (people can only hear him when its convenient for the progress of the plot...).
In conclusion, being a frequent movie-watcher who has seen many, many bad movies, I would place this one with the worst, mostly for the terrible story. I was only hoping that the whole movie was all a dream I was having after falling asleep in a movie theater. Unfortunately, I never woke up. |
