I'm a fan of David S. Goyer, but moreso for his writing than his directing (Blade 3). Since this was a remake...I guess he's the most to blame then. The story itself is just not that interesting. There's no mystery involved (misleading by the trailers - a hospital scene that's in the trailer doesn't even appear in the film) and also no real tension. Maybe they were going for something different, but it just doesn't work. The acting - especially by Marcia Gay Harden, an Academy award winner, is quite poor - looks like she phoned it in and took the check, and the dialogue is just mediocre.
Maybe it's unfair to compare this to "Ghost" but with a somewhat similar plot, this doesn't even come close. Sorry - wanted to like this, but I couldn't. |
