Within the first five minutes of the movie I was worried this would be another 'James and the Giant Peach' (which I find intolerable). I was a bit disturbed that the boy had an uncanny resemblence to the lead in the Tim Burton film, even sparking a debate on the way home as to whether that was the same actor. However, once the movie gets through the live action, it actually perks up a bit. As an adult watching the movie, I felt that they could have done a bit more with the antagonisim between the forces of good and evil, but I wasn't necessarily disappointed. What I was pleasantly surprised about, however, was the animation as well as the acting. Both were very good (significantly better than 'Happily N'ever After', but not as good, perhaps, as 'Cars.') I liked that there were little to no adult references in the movie which makes it very child friendly in my book. Most importantly my children loved the movie. That, after all, is why we went in the first place and why I will end up buying this movie on DVD. |
