I'm one of those weird people who actually likes to read the book before i go see the movie.
I have to say i was skeptical about how they were going to translate it into a film for children (read the book its pretty dang scary) don't get me wrong the book is wonderful but there are a couple of scenes that make Friday the 13th look mild.
I have to say that all fears were blown away when i saw the movie, not only did they strike a prefect balance between frightening and charming but they managed to change very little of the original story, I would imagine that if i hadn't just re-read the book before i went to see the film it would have been pretty darn hard to pick out any changes they were so minor..
non A.D.D. kids are going to enjoy it because of the lively action and adventure/suspense, adults will like it because the seemingly simple story is actually quite deep (if your the type of person who likes to actually think about what your seeing on screen this movie will keep you happily busy for a while) aside from that its simply a gorgeous piece of stop motion animation... for that alone its worth seeing...
please note,...this is one of those films that does not suit A.D.D. adults or children,..if you need constant explosions, or constant giggles or prat falls or fart jokes then this is NOT a film for you.. |
