This movie was lovely, actually. The acting was outstanding, the camera angles were interesting, and the movie went in another crazy, unpredictable direction each time you turned around. The story was all right.
The main problem: it wasn't Nancy. In fact, none of the characters were right at all. Nancy, so hip, trendy, and popular in the books, became old-fashioned and a dork, of sorts. Ned went from being a college quarterback and "tall, dark and handsome" to being a slightly nerdy high school kid. Carson wasn't the fatherly figure he appeared as in the books. Hannah, Bess, and George even appeared in very different views.
As my friend put it, the movie was great, but the characters were complete strangers with familiar names. If you were looking for a classic Nancy Drew story, you will be disappointed. |
